When
Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff called saying they needed
a map of their unique campus, we jumped at the chance. All of their buildings
are called pods, due to the fact that they are circular. We designed the cabinet
so that the map could be accessed with a key to prevent vandalism. The cabinet
was fabricated from particle board, a beautiful granite laminate and tempered
glass. The top has a piano hinge on the back that allows it to open upward,
with locking hinges inside to hold it open for cleaning or changes to the map.
The map is made from matte black acrylic to prevent glare, and all of the graphics
are vinyl. We generated evacuation plans from scale versions of the main map
in black and white for all entrances/exits. An extensive amount of window lettering
was used at the school as directional signage, since all of the doors and transoms
were glass. It created a very open feel to the circular rooms.
